# Makes and models

> Discover manufacturers, models, and filter values before searching.

## Manufacturers

This public endpoint returns a list of manufacturer names:

```bash theme={"system"}
curl --fail-with-body "https://api.xapichina.com/v1/makes?lang=en"
```

Use `lang=zh` for original Chinese names. The `brand` search filter supports Chinese names, translated English names, catalog IDs, and pinyin that match the source catalog.

## Models

Model discovery requires your secret API key and consumes a data request:

```bash theme={"system"}
curl --fail-with-body "https://api.xapichina.com/v1/makes/BMW/models?lang=en" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $XAPICHINA_API_KEY"
```

The response has `make` and `models` fields. URL-encode manufacturer names that contain spaces or Chinese characters. An unknown manufacturer returns `404` for model discovery; an unknown search brand returns `422`.

## Filter catalog

```bash theme={"system"}
curl --fail-with-body "https://api.xapichina.com/v1/filters?lang=en"
```

This public endpoint returns `manufacturers`, `fuel_types`, `transmissions`, `body_styles`, and `sort_options`. Build select controls from these supported values rather than assuming Korea's enums apply.

Supported names are translated. Unknown model text can remain Chinese; retain original source labels where useful for your application.
