# Plans, keys, and billing

> Understand shared allowances, monthly cycles, subscription changes, and key management.

## Account-wide allowances

All keys on an account share the same plan and usage allowance. Successful data calls count once, even when a response comes from cache or a valid filtered search returns no matches.

Check [Dashboard → Billing](https://xapichina.com/dashboard/billing) for current prices and [Dashboard → Usage](https://xapichina.com/dashboard/usage) or `GET /v1/me` for your active allowance. The dashboard is authoritative for your subscription and account state.

## Monthly usage cycles

Usage renews on the account's monthly cycle, based on its cycle anchor. Do not assume every account resets on the first day of a calendar month. For an anniversary that falls beyond the end of a shorter month, the backend uses the last valid day of that month.

Plan activation can establish a new cycle anchor. Check the active allowance rather than calculating renewal from a cached plan name alone.

## Upgrade or cancel

Start subscription changes from the dashboard. Checkout confirmation and backend billing events determine the actual plan change; a browser's success redirect alone is not proof of an upgrade.

Cancellation can be scheduled for the paid period's end. The dashboard displays pending cancellation and lets you resume an eligible subscription. Billing routes authenticate dashboard sessions/JWTs; secret API keys are for public data requests, not billing administration.

## Rotate and revoke keys

Create keys with environment-specific labels. The full secret is displayed once, and revoked keys stop authenticating requests. Creating another key does not bypass exhausted quota or increase the per-minute limit.

For [account deletion](https://xapichina.com/dashboard/settings/security), use the dashboard's cleanup flow so API access and subscription handling are coordinated.

## Avoid unnecessary charges

Public `/v1/makes` and `/v1/filters` do not use data quota. `GET /v1/me` checks allowance without consuming a data request. Details already contain photos, so a separate image call may be unnecessary. Fetch the inspection summary or full view according to what your application needs.
